Microdiscetomy 10 wks ago no leg pain but lower back achiness; what now?

I had a microdiscetomy 10 wks ago; the neurosurgeon said he removed only fragments, he did not touch the disc, L5-SI. After surgery, the intense pain disappeared, and achiness set in at about 3-4 weeks after surger;y. Things were going well, I walk every day about a mile, but the achiness persists. I only need to take 1 Excedrin Back and Body pain to get relief, but I'm wondering how long it takes to fully recover, or is it normal to live with lower back pain and achiness? I'm afraid to increase physical activities because of this. I went to physical therapy for a few weeks after surgery, but the doctor said I could do the isometric exercises at home, which I do. I also stretch the hamstring and quadriceps.

My choices are to continue on my own and hope for the best, go to the orthopedic surgeon I previously went to before surgery and probably resume physical therapy. I'm not in terrible shape, but I wish I felt better so I could do more. I am a 65 yr old female, who likes to golf, swim, do pilates. Right now I limit myself to walking. Advice anyone?
