Check with the local welfare department in your area to see if you qualify for any medical assistance. Otherwise, check with your surgeon to see what kind of payment plan they can set up for you. Usually, when the hospital sends you the bill [or during the pre-registering process] they will discuss the payment plan and have you fill out a form to see if you qualify for medical assistance.

You can also check to see if there is a "free clinic" in your area that can provide you with medical services [at low or no cost to you] in lieu of surgery.

There are alternatives out there. If you "have" to have surgery, talk to your doctor. They should be able to set up a payment plan that fits your budget. But more importantly, get a 2nd opinion about the need for surgery. My doctor is wanting me to postpone having any surgery as long as possible and referred me to a pain clinic for alternative treatments. The choice is mine, between the surgery or alternative treatments to deal with the pain. I chose the clinic and that doctor is working with my budget.

BTW, I've been dealing with the back pain since 1991. I understand the frustration and concerns you are going through with treatment costs and the chronic pain. I wish you the best of luck.

Why do you have to pay for your operation? In the 3 countries I have lived in, New Zealand, Australia and England Hospitals are free and we don't have to pay the only thing is we might have to be on a waiting list. I wonder why it is different where you live. Are you sure? If so I am certainly glad I don't live where you are in fact I would have died by now. I hope you can get help.
