fusion l5-s1

Started by breadgirl on 04/02/2011 8:21pm

Hi, would greatly appreciate any feedback on my surgery which I had almost 4wks ago. I had a level5-s1 fusion, minimnal evasive with 2 screws and 1 rod and new cage. I'm still in pain, still hard to walk, stand up and go up my stairs, maybe i expected too much but thought it would be easier than before surgery. Has anyone had this type of surgery? Would love to hear how you are doing and what to expect. I guess getting a little depressed that I'm still having a rough time. Any info would be great. THANKS

Maryann

Hi Breadgirl,
As a matter of fact i just had the same surgery a week ago Friday, and yes the pain you are having is all normal. There is still a lot of inflammation going on.I did get a little depressed yesterday too ,pain was so bad, worse than before surgery, but today i got up and it was better. You will have good days and bad days, but most important be patient with yourself(i am singing to the choir....haha).Lots of rest, listen to your body, continue icing and PT and try to keep a positive outlook....you will get there.
Take Care,Many Blessings,
I will say a little prayer for you.

Thanks for replying Nancy. Started iceing again and did help me alot yesterday. Haven't started pt yet, I see my surgeon tomorrow for my 4 week check up and honestly I do not think I'm ready for pt. Still having hard time gettting up my stairs and walking so, I just don't think I'm ready and afraid pt will bring on more pain, so hoping I don't start pt for few wks. Keep in touch would love to know how your doing and if I'm able to help you with me being a few wks ahead I would like to beable to do that. I guess the bad days just seem more than good days and it does get me depressed which I'm sure dosen't help my recovery. Thanks again for responding, keep in touch.
