Severe pain and curved upper back

Started by dp05 on 01/19/2011 8:18pm

I'm 29 years old and have just started to notice in the last couple of years my back becoming more "hump like" At first it was starting to hurt when standing for long periods of time but is now when standing for more than a half hour. And I cannot just sit down to relieve the pain I have to lie down. About 7 months ago I started to try and improve my posture by standing up straight and pushing my shoulders back but that did not improve my appearance and just increased the pain. Now I have these sudden pains that come on that feel like its my chest and can last for hours. I went to the emeregency room cause I thought I was having a heart attack. Turns out it wasn't. They took some x-rays and called me the next day to ask if I ever broke my back like in a car accident. I told them no and they told me to follow up with a physician. I lost my insurance and cannot afford to go to a specialist about this. And those sudden pains are becoming much more frequent. Has anyone heard of this before? know the causes of it? or how to ease it? I'm 29 and I feel like an old man. lol It sucks to young for this...

Hi! I just became a member of this community today. I'm 54 and just received a diagnosis from a back surgeon that I suffer from Schueremanns Kyphosis....I think I spelled it right? I noted that this started in my teenage years. It's an inherited disorder so look around for family members with the same symptoms. Do some research and see if this is what is afflicting you.....and in the process I pray for God's blessings to you in reaching an effective means to alleviate what you endure. It has been so much of a problem for me that I became an alcoholic. Believe or not, I also was a trucker for 16 years.....boy was that painful! And yes....it does feel as though you are an old man. I know exactly where you are coming from. Good luck!

Hey Jerry I'm new to this as well and hope you can see this response. Yeah it does make me feel like an old man but I will find a way to make due....I did start looking at my family and turns out its fairly common....I just never really noticed or cared before....I wasn't sure what was going on for a while and did a little self medicating as well, but that part of my life is now over and am moving on....I give thanks to God for this actually and I know this will sound weird but it was able to draw me closer to Him....I appreciate the response and the encouragement it lifted my spirits....May God bless you in this journey...
