l5-s1 sciatica, but pins and needles in chest and lower arms?

Started by jungleman12 on 11/17/2010 9:15am

I have a l5-s1 herniated disc and annular tear. This causes sciatica which burns and electric type(pins n needles) in left buttocks and into my foot.. the symptoms are worse when Im sitting and after Ive laid down for a few hours at night.. I dont have any issues in the cervical area but when the electric shock gets at its worse the feelings radiate or feel as is they are into my arms and chest but only in my left leg.. I dont see the neursurgeon again until 12-6-10 and should have PLIF later the following week.. Im baffelled and was wanting do know if anyone else has had this occur, or someone may know what is causing this? Thank you very much

Mine is caused by several scattered herniated disc in neck, and all over the spinal area. I have had several sugeries but this does return after each surgery. The dr. cannot give me a exact answer to why this reurns even after 'REPAIRS" but, I do suggest going into book stores and getting only the most recent books and or information on your issues.(four years or less).

There are two great books I've read so many but, these two has really helped me understand that NOTHING is perfect but, it can help!

Hi, I have herniation as well as tears in l4-s1. been advised i need 2 level fusion. I have notice lately and its only when I sleep I wake up and my hands are completely asleep, feels like pins and needles but 100x times worse than when your hands fall asleep, i was wondering if it had anything to do with my low back but wasn't sure. I also have pains down both legs to my feet, my buttocks hurts and gets numb and my back hurts like hell. I'm taking 2 morphine, 2 vicodin, 1 antiinflammatory and muscle relaxor dalily until my work comp case is settled. Was going to discuss this with my pmd or spine dr next time i see them. let me know if you find anything out.

pain in arms and chest shouldnt be coming from lower spine. it most likely is from a completely different problem . dont expect it to improve from lower back surgery.

Hi jungleman12,
Sounds like possible cervical spine herniations,i have all the same symptoms and i do have cervical spine issues, along with L5-S1,getting ready to have surgery in two weeks. As far as your lumbar soine goes, try to remain hiopeful about your surgery, alot of people DO get better.
Blessings,
