Someone please help me about cortisone shot!

Started by alex_043 on 10/02/2010 9:26pm

Ok so Tues sept 21st I had a cortisone injection in my right shoulder. I laid in bed for 3 days from the pain b/c it was so bad. By Fri the top part of my spine started hurting and by Sunday the pain began radiating down my spine. The following Tuesday, exactly one week after the shot, my spine hurt so bad just to touch or to move that I had to leave work. My whole lower back hurt. I went to the doctor and they did bloodwork and xrays, but everything came back ok. They think its just a bad reaction to the cortisone injection, but I don't know what to do. I cant function and it hurts with activity. I'm only 29 years old and the orthopedic surgeon doesn't know what to tell me. Hes no help at all. Please if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I need to hear them!

wow thats terrible....i do know that too many srteroids can cause fat deposits in spine that can pressure nerves. you would need mri to check.....i think i would see a neurologist quickly. might even be worth trip to ER.....pete

What could a neurologist do? ER wont do anything. They dont even really do MRIs unless its life threatening.

i dont know what they would do. i know i've got mris in the er. room. this may or may not be really bad for you. maybe the er oom will consult with an expert. you cant just give up because surgeon did nothing. the worst thing anyone can do is give up.....pete

alex....
i had a conversation with my neurosurgeon a while back about how surgery was necessary for many people what got too much cortisone. the fat deposits built up in the spine and needed to be removed. maybe a neurosurgeon would have advice for you. the ER room might get his advice.
