I too have a lump on the lower spine. It developed quickly 15 months after surgery. The first neurosurgeon, the one who did the surgery, I consulted about it order MRIs and X-Rays. After he saw them, he said everything looked good and to get a taller cane.

Five months later I consulted another neurosurgeon. He asked where were the CT Scans. Turns out the MRIs and X-Rays did not show the entire fusion. He ordered them and they showed loose screws. He said they HAD to come out and it could not be done locally. He said the removal surgery was very complex and that he only trusted approximately 12 neurosurgeons in the US who could do this surgery.

I now have an appointment with Dr. Christoper Ames of UCSF spine center.

Hopes this helps
