Sever pain in lower back years after surgery

Started by 100001973855250... on 02/10/2013 1:21am

I had a steal plate put in place of my L5 S1 disc in my lower back. I have been in pain since then and it's been 9 years. Just in the past few days the pain is so bad I can't stand it. I didn't have medical I just take my medicine and suffer. I don't know what to do, I can't stand the pain. I am really scared at this point. I have not done anything that should have made me hurt like this. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Please if you know what I could do to help, please let me know.

Hi Amanda!! I would first like to say I'm so sorry that you are having so much pain, and also that I will keep you in my prayers! I can somewhat understand the type of pain & discomfort that you are feeling because I had my L5-S1 disk herrniate. I've had 3 surgeries (2 laminectomy/ diskectomy & a anterior/posterior spinal fusion a little over a yr). This is the worst pain I've ever had to deal with. Between the back pain itself and on top of that the neropathy of my nerves. I know that I get some relief from using ice, and I got these ice packs called CoolPak they are wonderful because they are filled with a clay type of substance and it stays colder longer (30-45 min). What type of pain exactly are you feeling? Can you describe it a little maybe I can share a little more advice/suggestions with you?

Grab a ice pak go lay down on whatever side is more comfortable, put a pillow between your knees (fetal pos). Put ice pak at spot/source of pain, have a child, spouse or loved one ,sometimes I can tell my dog to lay against the ice pak and me pally slight pressure to spot for about 30-45 min. Do not put ice pak direct to skin have a t shirt between you and ice to prevent freeze burn. I know this works for me. I'm 2 1/2 yrs post op and some days I don't think I can make it but this helps me. Good luck and if I can help anyway just ask.

hi amanda gosh what do you take for pain? after taking pain meds for 9 years, you may have to get a different pain med. that may help are you working or doing somthing that agravates the back? If you can try some exercises if you can, I have my share of probs, also I eat to much I need to drop some weight. I set to much and all these things add up to pain I would try and get a mri done some how and find out if its a new prob. good luck.
