Failed Back Surgery and Acupuncture

Started by 1647862141@facebook on 01/22/2013 9:36am

I had a laminectomy without fusion 2.5 months ago but it has turned into a nightmare that I cannot wake up from. The NS has basically dismissed me saying there is nothing she can do because she cannot understand why I have chronic neuropathic pain. My abdomen, legs, calves. knees are always on fire. I cannot walk properly due to a weak right leg, which is starting to atrophy. I cannot get the pain under control so I had my first acupuncture visit. At first I felt very woozy and wobbly but started to feel better, except later in the evening I felt worse. I was in terrible pain all night and wonder if I should go back for the next treatment. I wasn't expecting miracles but I didn't expect to feel just as or even worse after the treatment. Any comments on this or suggestions about where I should go next would be appreciated.

hi marilyn well Im not a dr but it sounds like you may have a nerve pinched. I had tlif and lamenctomy with 8screw and 2 rods. my lumbar is fused together. I dont have much prob with that my prob is I forget I cant bend anymore, if I dont bend Im fine. get a mri and find a ortho dr get someone that does nothing but the spine. check out there patients and what they say about him. thats how I picked out mine. I got a apointment took him my mris and in two mintues he showed and told me what it would take to fix it. He had a waiting list about a mile long. If I have a prob I go see him and hes a very good surgeon. I over stretch my muscles. good luck let us no what you find out good luck.

Can you tell us the name of the Doctor you went to and what state he is in? I would love a Doctor that could figure me out at all, let alone in two minutes.
If that's possible...thanks.

hi rose the surgeon that I went to is bradly algren he is in michigan. thats all he does is just the spine.at 2.5months I was a long way from 100%. it actually takes a year for fusions to be complete, the muscles in your back take time to heal. take as warm a shower as you can or go find a hot tub you can use. that was what really helped me. it was betr then any pain pill. walking also helps in healing. also a brace will help also. and the most important thing you shouldnt do is bending all that does is make the muscles and all say ouch. by a grabber so you can stand to pick up somthing from the ground.
