About Steven M. Falowski, MD

Dr. Falowski underwent his neurosurgical residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia with a focus on Spinal Cord Stimulation and Pain management, complex spinal procedures, and treatment for movement disorders such as deep brain stimulation. He completed a functional neurosurgical fellowship at Rush University in Chicago. His practice specializes in neuromodulation and spinal procedures. He is board certified in Neurosurgery.

He is a board member and secretary for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), as well as annual meeting program chair. He is faculty of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS), as well as Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS)/American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). He additionally serves as a board member of the CNS/AANS Executive Pain Committee. He also serves as an executive officer of the board for the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience.

His major focus in society and industry revolves around education, integration of specialties, research, and practice management. Roles include implementing and directing the resident-fellows section and mentorship program through NANS. He has been the course director of the annual NANS spinal cord stimulation/neuromodulation workshop that is the largest training course available. He also serves as course director for the International cadaver workshops. He is chair of the certification committee for NANS to ensure the proper and safe training of new physicians. He collaborates with numerous companies and industry partners on product development, education, research, and strategy. Dr. Falowski is involved in numerous clinical research studies and novel developments for spinal cord stimulation, pain management, deep brain stimulation, and spinal procedures.

He won the research award at the PAN Philadelphia Neurosurgical Conference in 2009 for his work dealing with DBS in a depression model and its effect on neuroplasticity. His latest publications and specialty interest deals with utilizing intraoperative neuromonitoring for the asleep placement of spinal cord stimulators, as well as developing new technologies and stimulation platforms.

His practice is primarily based on neuromodulation, pain management and its applications, and spinal procedures. This includes Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, Spinal Cord Stimulation for the treatment of various pain syndromes, peripheral nerve stimulation for headache disorders, and radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Falowski has an established track record for establishing a nationally recognized functional neurosurgery program that included a Pain Center, Movement Disorder Center, and neuroscience research division.
