About Theresa Marko, DPT

Dr. Theresa Marko, PT, DPT, MS, is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic physical therapist & Certified Early Intervention Specialist with over 20 years of experience. She is the owner of Marko Physical Therapy, a private practice in New York City, specializing in spine, orthopedics, adolescents, and pediatrics. She has helped thousands of people to overcome injuries, optimize their movement, and return them to work and sports pain free and better than ever.

Dr. Marko graduated with a master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons University in Boston and went on to obtain her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in Iowa.  Dr. Marko obtained her board certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.  She also earned a specialty in Pediatrics, birth to three years old, as a Certified Early Intervention Specialist from the Massachusetts Department of Health.  Dr. Marko has the unique perspective of knowing how to help all people across the age spectrum.

She brings over 20 years of experience to her practice, which includes a specialized knowledge base, reflective of her many post-graduate advanced training courses.  Her deep fascination of the body’s mechanics spurs her to continually learn new treatment techniques as well as new schools of thought on movement.  Dr. Marko uses her specialized manual skills in the treatment of cervical, thoracic and lumbar back pain, as well as upper and lower extremity disorders. 

She has completed advanced training with:

She has been a member of The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 1996 and has become an integral part of their advocacy team, fighting for physical therapy legislation on behalf of her patients and profession.  She is also a member of several sections of the APTA such as: Private Practice, Orthopaedic, Health Policy & Administration, Pelvic Health, Pediatrics, as well as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.  

She serves as a member of the APTA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee as well as the APTA Private Practice Section Government Affairs Committee. In addition, she serves on the Practice Affairs Committee of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and the Health Policy and Administration Section of the APTA.  She also serves on the Finance Committee of the APTA Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and was recently appointed to the Public Policy Committee of APTA New York Chapter, where she also serves as the Federal Affairs Liaison.
