Dr. Wetzel is Chief of Orthopaedic Services at Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown, NY. 

Dr. Wetzel received his Bachelors of Arts in Biology at Harvard College in Cambridge, MA and Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed several residencies at Yale University in New Haven, CT; Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and was Chief Resident and Instructor in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.

He then completed a Research Fellowship at the Yale Biomechanics Laboratory at Yale University School of Medicine. Thereafter, Dr. Wetzel further advanced his training in a Spinal Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship under the late Henry LaRocca, MD, at the Saint Charles General Hospital and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.

Dr. Wetzel is a past President of the North American Spine Society (NASS), and an active member of other prestigious orthopaedic, spine and medical societies.
