About Frank M. Phillips, MD

Dr. Frank Phillips is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Director of the Section of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and Director of the Division of Spine Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Phillips specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, motion-preserving spinal procedures (ie, artificial disc replacement) and spinal reconstruction surgery of the cervical and lumbar spine. His research interests also include intervertebral disc biology and regeneration.

Dr. Phillips received his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at The University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago, followed by a spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Phillips is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Phillips’ research is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and he lectures extensively presenting at meetings and spinal educational courses for spine surgeons. He is a contributing member of several spine societies, including the Cervical Spine Research Society, International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, North American Spine Society, Orthopaedic Research Society, and Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
