Laurel is a freelancer medical writer and editor. Her experience includes writing journal articles, investigative and feature articles covering city, health, science and education issues. In addition, she has over 10 years’ experience working as a surgical and labor and delivery nurse, primary with the US Navy Nurse Corps and US Navy Reserves.

Laurel anticipates graduating from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Arts (MA) in Science Writing in 2019. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City where she also received her MA in English and Creative Writing.

She was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, has served on Medical Outreach to four Belize villages, taught English in Mexico City, and completed an American Society of Magazine Editors’ internship at Reader’s Digest.
