About Alok D. Sharan, MD, MHCDS
Dr. Alok Sharan is Co-Director of the Westmed Spine Center located in Yonkers and New Rochelle, NY. He is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon whose focus is minimally invasive spine surgery, as well as cervical spine surgery. Dr. Sharan also is one of the early adopters of the Awake Spinal Fusion procedure.
Dr. Sharan obtained his undergraduate degree at Boston University and received his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Albany Medical Center and his spine surgery fellowship at NYU-Hospital for Joint Disease. During his fellowship, Dr. Sharan was named an AOSpine Fellow and an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Washington Health Policy Fellow. At Dartmouth College, he received his Masters in Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS) degree.
He has consecutively received recognition as a Best Doctor by Castle Connolly, New York Magazine Best Doctor, and Westchester Magazine Best Doctor.
He has received numerous academic distinctions for his research with over 100 publications, abstracts, and book chapters. He has co-edited a textbook entitled Basic Science of Spinal Diseases. Dr. Sharan currently serves as a Deputy Editor for the publication Clinical Spine Surgery.
