About Andrew Hecht, MD

Dr. Andrew Hecht is Chief of Spine Surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System and Hospital. Dr. Hecht also serves as Director of the Spine Center at Mount Sinai and has dual appointments as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurologic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. This accomplished academic and surgeon is the Founder and Medical Co-Director of The Newton-Wellesley Spine Center and the Director of the Spine Surgery Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Hecht is the spine surgical consultant to professional football teams; New York Jets, New York Islanders, and New York Dragons, and collegiate teams at Hofstra University and Molloy College, both in Long Island, NY. He directs the acute spinal cord injury program for the New York Jets, and is only one of two orthopaedic surgeons in the NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committee. Furthermore, he is the Director of the National Football League’s (NFL) Spine Care Program for retired players at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Hecht received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School where he completed an orthopaedic surgical residency. He then completed a Trauma Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston followed by a Spine Surgery Fellowship at Emory University Spine Center in Atlanta, GA.

He is a member of many prestigious medical associations, including the North American Spine Society and Cervical Spine Research Society. He regularly presents his research and participates as faculty at meetings. Furthermore, Dr. Hecht is the author of many published journal articles, textbook chapters, and books.
