About Wellington K. Hsu, MD

Dr. Wellington K. Hsu is the Clifford C. Raisbeck Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He is also the Director of Research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Musculoskeletal Institute.

Dr. Hsu earned his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He then began his post-doctoral and residency training at the University of California – Los Angeles’ (UCLA) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he completed a general surgery internship followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency. After his residency, Dr. Hsu completed a post-doctoral basic science fellowship at UCLA’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery followed by a spine surgery fellowship at the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation.                                           

A respected leader in the field of orthopaedic research, Dr. Hsu has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 30 textbook chapters. He is also an active member of the orthopaedic community through his leadership and committee roles with various spine organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Lumbar Spine Research Society, and Cervical Spine Research Society.

Dr. Hsu has received dozens of academic and professional honors throughout his career, including the 2017 Best Paper Award from the American Bone and Joint Surgeons and the 2017 “Game Changer” Research Paper Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
