About Neel Anand, MD

An accomplished and highly regarded spine surgeon by his patients, peers and the public, Dr. Neel Anand serves as Clinical Professor of Surgery and Director of Spine Trauma at the renowned Cedars-Sinai Spine Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His past academic appointments at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center include Director of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery, as well as Director of Spine Fellowship; having trained more than 30 Fellows in the minimally invasive techniques and approaches he has developed and employs.

Over the course of more than 20 years in practice, Dr. Anand has channeled his orthopaedic surgery expertise into a career exclusively dedicated to minimally invasive and innovative approaches to the treatment of spinal disorders especially scoliosis in adults and adolescents. 

Dr. Anand is deeply committed to advancing the field of minimally invasive spine surgery and devotes a considerable amount of time to researching emerging technologies. He has served as principal investigator in a number of FDA investigational device exemption studies that have helped pave the way for innovation in minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Anand is a heavily-published author, editor and presenter of articles, studies and poster/abstract presentations in prestigious academic journals, trade publications, textbook chapters and world-wide industry meetings with more than 500 such contributions to Spine, Journal of Spinal Disorders, Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, among many others. He is also a section editor of the newest Gray’s Anatomy 41st Edition.

A physician committed to working alongside the best and brightest minds in this ever-advancing spine surgery field, Dr. Anand is a proud member of and has served on committees and on the advisory boards for a number of prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Society for Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery, Society for Lateral Access Surgery, ONE Spine Society and more.

Dr. Anand earned his medical degree from the University of Bombay, Topiwala National Medical College in India. He completed orthopaedic residencies at the University of Bombay, the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Liverpool and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Orthopaedic Program at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York. Dr. Anand accomplished a reconstructive spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Florida Spinal Health Centers in Gainesville, as well as a scoliosis fellowship and spinal trauma fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell University in New York. He completed his surgical internship at New York Medical College, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.
