What Treatments Do Orthopaedic Spine Surgeons Provide?

Orthopaedic spine surgeons are trained in the latest surgical techniques to treat spinal disorders. Surgical procedures include discectomy, foraminotomy, laminectomy, and spinal instrumentation and fusion. Some orthopaedic surgeons specialize in specific types of spine surgery, such as minimally invasive surgery.
Although orthopaedic training is extensive, some spine surgeons are more experienced in certain procedures, such as anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF), a low back stabilization operation performed at the front of the spine. However, in general, orthopaedic spine surgeons are equipped to perform the latest spine surgery techniques.

Orthopaedic spine doctors also prescribe medication and refer patients for nonoperative treatment, such as physical therapy and rehabilitation.
