Using Heat to Treat Back Pain

Moist Heat May Help Relieve Your Pain

Moist heat is a common therapy used to temporarily relieve muscle spasm and inflammation caused by strain and tension. One example of a moist heating pad is the Chattanooga Group's TheraTherm® Digital heating pad.  As with many heating pads, it is designed for home use and is easy to use.

The TheraTherm product draws moisture from the air and holds it in a specially designed flannel cover. Moisture is rapidly heated by high-grade ceramics that allow deeper penetration of heat into the body's soft tissues.

The digital hand control allows the patient to select a temperature between 88- and 166-degrees Fahrenheit and treatment time between 1 to 60 minutes.  These features are common to most digital heating pads.  Before purchasing a heating pad to help relieve your back pain, reseach your options so that you know you're getting one that will work well for you.
