Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine)
Azulfidine is the brand name for sulfasalazine. Azulfidine is a prodrug, meaning it is effective after it is broken down by bacteria in the colon. The drug may work as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant (suppresses the immune system). Sulfasalazine is prescribed to treat anklyosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
