Oxycodone Hydrochloride and Oxycodone Terephthalate With Aspirin: Warnings
- This drug may obscure the diagnosis or clinical course if you have acute abdominal conditions.
Infants and Children
Aspirin should not be used in children under 18 years who have
a fever and other discomforts of a viral infection, especially
chicken pox and influenza, as it may increase the risk of Reye's
syndrome.
Use with extreme caution in this age group, as overdose is frequent
and severe with careless use.
This drug is not recommended for use in children under 6 years.
Adults Over 60
Use with caution in this age group, as older patients are more
likely to experience the drug's adverse reactions.
Drug Dependency
The oxycodone component has the potential for abuse, and produces
a morphine type dependency. Both physical and psychological dependency,
as well as tolerance, can develop with repeated use. Use caution
and follow your physician's recommended dosage.
Pregnancy Risk Category: C (first and second trimesters); D (third trimester).
Pregnancy Warnings
Aspirin can cause fetal harm in the third trimester. Avoid using during the third trimester. Use only if absolutely necessary during the first two trimesters.
Nursing Mothers
Because of the risk of potential harm to the newborn, avoid using this drug while breastfeeding. If therapy is necessary, avoid breastfeeding while on this drug.
Prolonged Use
Prolonged use of oxycodone can cause physical and psychological dependence as well as tolerance. Aspirin can cause gastric ulcer and prolonged bleeding time. Avoid prolonged use.
Discontinuing Therapy
You may need to decrease the dosage gradually during the discontinuing process. This is especially true for this class of drugs if you develop an addiction. An abrupt cessation can cause a negative withdrawal. Follow your physician's advice on how to withdraw from drug safely.
Operating a Vehicle or Heavy Machinery
This drug may produce side effects that impair your mental alertness, such as sedation, dizziness, or lightheadedness. Avoid such activities if you feel these symptoms. Avoid consuming alcohol or other CNS depressants while taking this drug. They may intensify these side effects.
