Etanercept (Enbrel)
Enbrel is the brand name for etanercept. Etanercept is in a class of medications
called tumor-necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors. Enbrel works by blocking the
activity of TNF, a substance in the body that causes swelling and joint damage
in arthritis. Enbrel is prescribed alone or with other drugs to treat juvenile
and rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and sometimes ankylosing spondylitis.
