Oral clarithromycin belongs to a class of antibiotics called macrolides. It is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria such as bronchitis, strep throat, pneumonia and skin infections. It is also used in combination with other drugs to eliminate duodenal ulcers. It works by hindering the ability of bacterial cells to make certain proteins necessary for their survival.
