Oral clarithromycin belongs to a class of antibiotics called macrolides. It is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria such as bronchitis, strep throat, pneumonia and skin infections. It is also used in combination with other drugs to eliminate duodenal ulcers. It works by hindering the ability of bacterial cells to make certain proteins necessary for their survival. As with all antibiotics, finish the entire course of medicine as directed by your doctor. Try not to miss any doses and do not discontinue therapy early even if you feel better. |
