Dr. Sosa's areas of interest include pain management of acute and chronic back and joint pain using imaging guided injection of a combination of steroid and long acting anesthetic. Spinal injection procedures are performed in order to both diagnose and treat different causes of back pain. There are multiple types of spinal injection procedures; the most commonly performed procedures include epidural injections, selective nerve root injections, and facet joint injections. Another type of pain management procedure is called a Joint Injection. A bone joint is injected with a steroid to decrease pain and swelling in the joint.
Dr. Sosa also performs vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty for compression fractures. In addition, Dr. Sosa performs a new procedure called Enhanced Vertebroplasty for metastatic spine tumors-- a procedure designed to stabilize painful vertebral compression fractures caused by metastatic spine tumors. Another name for the procedure is Coblation with vertebroplasty.
