About Our Practice
The Mount Sinai Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine Division of Rehabilitation Medicine offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for musculoskeletal disorders. We specialize in the treatment of neck pain, back pain, and other spinal disorders. We also treat shoulder pain, hip pain, knee pain, and other athletic injuries. We use the most technologically advanced methods to treat and diagnose our patients. These treatments include but are not limited to flouroscopic guided epidural injections, discography, joint injections, and EMG. We also offer alternative medical treatments such as accupunture and osteopathic manipulation.
Dr. Joseph E. Herrera is a Board Certified Physiatrist. He joined Mount Sinai in 2005 following completion of an Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Spine Institute and Orthopedic Sports Rehabilitation Department of Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. He completed a residency and served as Chief Resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation through the combined program of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medical Center.
He is published in peer reviewed medical journals and has presented material at national meetings. Dr. Herrera’s research and clinical interests include sports related injuries, electrodiagnostic studies, and fluoroscopic guided spine and joint intervention. He is fellowship trained in epidural injections, discography, radiofrequency neurotomy, joint injections, and disc decompressor procedures. He also offers osteopathic manipulation and EMG/NCS.
Dr. Herrera has been appointed a Medical Panel Physician for the New York State Athletic Commission and a team physician for USA Boxing Metro, affording him the opportunity to treat and evaluate amateur and professional athletes. He currently sits on the Medical Advisory Board for the American Association of Ringside Physicians
