About Our Practice
Many patients experiencing chronic spinal pain feel misunderstood by their family, friends, and medical providers. This leaves them frustrated and with a decreased quality of life. My practice, with over twenty years of studying spinal and neuropathic pain, is focused on helping our patients regain their quality of life. Interventional Pain Specialists are 'medical detectives' who analyze a patient's symptoms, imaging studies, and examination findings. We then set out to determine what is causing the underlying pain. Once the cause of pain has been accurately identified, our attention turns to the best and most cost-effective modality to improve the patient's function.
I have been an invited faculty instructor at national meetings for the Society of Pain Practice Management and the International Spine Intervention Society for the past seven years, giving lectures and teaching small attendee-groups the latest appropriate techniques in interventional procedures. This interaction allows me to learn from my peers, and in preparation for the meetings, it teaches me to stay up-to-date.
In the Pain Medicine division of Jackson Neurosurgery Clinic, all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are provided, including lumbar and cervical epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, provocative discography, percutaneous discectomy, spinal cord stimulation, and vertebroplasty. I have personally been regularly performing these procedures, some quite complex, since 1989.
My partner and associate, Dr John Adams, is also ABMS board-certified in Pain Medicine. The two of us work side-by-side on a daily and weekly basis to create the best care available. Together, we bring our patients over thirty years of board-certified experience.
As Interventional Pain Physicians, fellowship-trained at the leading institutions in the United States, and ABMS board-certified, we also provide additional options: management of chronic pain via selected opioids, non-opioid adjuvant analgesics, physical therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Although the preferences of referring healthcare providers are prioritized, we have at least two highly-qualified and board-certified neurosurgeons on site for those patients whose diagnosis is best managed with the neurosurgeon as leader of the multidisciplinary team. By having both Interventional Pain Medicine and Neurosurgery available literally across the hall and in the same office suite, referring providers can have the confidence their patients are being cared for completely, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
