About Our Practice
Dr. Russel C. Huang is a board certified orthopedic spine surgeon educated at Harvard College and the Yale School of Medicine. After completing orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Huang completed fellowship training in spine surgery under Dr. Henry H. Bohlman, considered by many to be the father of contemporary spine surgery.
Dr. Huang practices at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), which has been ranked the number one orthopedic surgery hospital in the Northeast by US News and World Report for 16 consecutive years. HSS was also ranked #1 in New York City for spinal surgery by New York Magazine (2006).
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Huang has published and lectured extensively on topics such as lumbar stenosis and disc herniation, cervical disc herniation, intervertebral disc replacement, spine fusion, and cervical myelopathy.
Depending on the patient's specific spinal problem, Dr. Huang performs spinal surgery using traditional techniques or using the latest cutting edge surgical technologies. These include minimally invasive lumbar decompression and fusion, disc replacement, and microsurgical lumbar laminoplasty. For certain types of spinal problems, these new techniques can eliminate the need for spinal fusion.
