About Our Practice
Dr. Reiter is board certified in Orthopaedic surgery and has completed a fellowship in spinal surgery. His practice consists entirely of the operative and nonoperative management of patients with spinal disorders. Dr. Mitchell Reiter served as Chief of the Division of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UMDNJ - The New Jersey Medical School for ten years. In April of 2008 Dr. Reiter entered private practice at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey.
If you have a complex spinal disorder or are still having pain following spinal surgery, Dr. Reiter has extensive expertise in the management of all types spinal disorders including revision situations. Conditions of the Cervical, Thoracic or Lumbar Spine that frequently require treatment include: disk herniations, spinal stenosis, disk degenerations, scoliosis, spinal fractures, spondylolisthesis, and spinal tumors.
Dr. Reiter is proficient in newer spine procedures including disc replacement, X-stop, Dynesis, and Kyphoplasty. It is Dr. Reiter's firm belief that every patient should be treated individually and their treatment adjusted based on their needs and desires. Dr. Reiter completed an accelerated six year combined B.S./M.D. program at the University of Miami. He then received his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a year of fellowship training in spinal surgery at Emory University in Atlanta. He has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the U.S. national medical honor society. Dr. Reiter has published numerous journal articles and book chapters in the field of spine surgery. His interests include adult and pediatric spinal surgery and biomechanics of spinal fixation. He is also actively engaged in research on reducing the scar tissue formation that occurs following spinal operations. Dr. Reiter and his partner Dr. Drzala were selected by their peers as Top Doctors by New Jersey Monthly magazine in 2007 and 2008. They were the only two Orthopaedic Spine Specialists in New Jersey selected to receive this honor.
