About Our Practice
I am a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in group practice who limits his practice to disorders of the spine. Eight of my partners also specialize in adult or pediatric disorders of the spine. I finished medical school at the University of Virginia in 1993. My specialty training occurred in the departments of orthopaedic and neurological surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. I moved from Cleveland to Detroit in 1999. Since then, I have been in practice at William Beaumont Hospital, a large referral teaching hospital in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak. This 1000 bed hospital is home to one of the largest spine centers in North America. We have been fortunate to have been involved in studies of virtually all of the new devices and products designed to improve surgical care of the spine. Our hospital houses one of the few certified fellowship programs in spine surgery. Spine surgeons from around the world come to Beaumont to train or observe surgery. I evaluate and treat degenerative (arthritis and disc herniations), traumatic (fractures), neoplastic (tumors) and other spinal conditions. Many spine conditions can be successfully treated non-operatively. Our group offers an integrated approach with a pain management specialist, rehabilitation physicians, and physical therapy on-site. For patient's whose symptoms do not improve, surgery may be required. Given that all of the reasonable treatment options are available at Beaumont, we are able to tailor the surgery to the particular needs of the patient. Often, we are able to use motion sparing techniques like total disc replacement or minimially invasive options, such as kyphoplasty or percutaneous decompression.
