About Our Practice
Alon Mogilner, MD, PhD joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System in 2005 and is the Director of Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery. He specializes in the use of techniques of neuromodulation, such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), to treat a variety of diseases and disorders of the nervous system including Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, and spasticity.
Prior to joining North Shore-LIJ, Dr. Mogilner was Co-Director of the Movement Disorders Center at Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College, where he also served as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery. Dr. Mogilner is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the Movement Disorder Society and the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. Dr. Mogilner is also the President of the AANS/CNS joint section on pain and the editor of the pain section newsletter. Dr. Mogilner is the Residency Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program for the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Dr. Mogilner received his MD degree, as well as a PhD in physiology and neuroscience, from New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Mogilner earned his MS and BA in computer science from Columbia University.
In 2000, Dr. Mogilner was awarded the William H. Sweet Young Investigator Award by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Pain Section. Dr. Mogilner has presented his basic science and clinical research at scientific meetings both nationwide and internationally, and has published numerous book chapters and articles in medical journals.
