About Our Practice

Edie E. Zusman, M.D., FACS, is Medical Director of Adult Neurosurgery at Sutter Neuroscience Institute. With her leadership, Sutter Neuroscience Institute has been designated a Neuroscience Center of Excellence and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento was ranked among America’s Best Hospitals in Neurology and Neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report in 2007 and 2008.

Dr. Zusman specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, epilepsy, aneurysms, vascular malformations and disorders of the spine. She is specialty trained in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery®, brain mapping, endoscopy, and intra-operative computer guided neuronavigation tools. Dr. Zusman is an active researcher with Sutter Institute for Medical Research (SIMR), and is on the SIMR Advisory Committee. She has also worked with the Bronte Epilepsy Research Foundation, CURE, UC Davis, the Bob Holm Brain Tumor Research Fund, and the NSF Center for Biophotonics on research projects, specializing in brain tumors and epilepsy.

Dr. Zusman completed her medical training in the Honors Program at Northwestern University Medical School in 1987. After a general surgery internship, neurological surgery residency and chief residency at UC Davis, Dr. Zusman received fellowships in Epilepsy, Brain Tumor Surgery and Molecular Medicine Research at UC San Francisco. She was named UC Davis Physician of the year in 2002, and has served on the Boards of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

In 2004, Dr. Zusman received the distinctive honor of serving as a Guest Examiner of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and in 2005, Dr. Zusman was named to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

In 2008 Dr. Zusman was nominated by physicians throughout the Greater Sacramento Region as one of Sacramento Magazine’s Top Docs for Neurosurgery.

An essay telling her inspiring story about becoming a top neurosurgeon in a male dominated field was recently published in Knowing Pains, and featured on the NBC Today Show, San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee.
