· (a – Medtronic Sofamor Danek) INTRODUCTION: Collaborative assessment of clinical outcomes requires a precise description of AIS.
Purpose: 1) To identify an objective set of radiographic parameters that clearly describe the salient features of AIS and 2) to develop a set of illustrations with descriptive text that clearly explains the measurement techniques.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Panels of international experts on the management of AIS were consulted and the available literature was reviewed to identify radiographic parameters to describe and quantify AIS
RESULTS: Twenty parameters were identified, illustrated and highlighted with descriptive text to clearly explain the measurement techniques, define the coordinate system, and allow assignment of ordinate values and sign (+/-).
DISCUSSION: The AIS Radiographic Measurement Manual presents a detailed internally consistent manual, which both illustrates and explains the pertinent measurement techniques to qualitatively and quantitatively describes AIS. These techniques allow objective comparison of pre and post-treatment radiographic data within and between treatment centers.
