Superior articular process fracture of C6
which was not detected at autopsy or on specimen radiograms. The
C5–C6 and the C6–C7 facet joints are completely ruptured and filled
with the embedding medium. Note the hematoma in the C6 ganglion and
the perineural tissues. The fracture dislodges and compresses the
vertebral artery. The capsule of the lower facet joint has torn out
a small bone fragment. A disc rupture was also found at this level.
There also was an odontoid process fracture and several
uncovertebral and facet joint injuries. |
