Gross disruption at the craniocervical
junction. Specimen radiograms had only shown a slight atlanto–axial
asymmetry. There is a subluxation and anterior rotation of the atlas
and the anterior atlanto–occipital membrane, the apical and cruciate
ligament, the rectorial membrane are ruptured. Note the avulsion of
the ligamentum flavum from the lamina of C2. In this specimen there
also were several uncovertebral and disc lesions, transverse process
fractures and facet joint– and ligamentum flavum ruptures.
