Course Objectives
This program will enable participants to:

  • Evaluate cases of cervical and lumbar degenerative disc disease and recommend treatment options and surgical approaches
  • Discuss the tidemark for surgical treatment of lumbar scoliosis and thoracic kyphosis and the differences in treating adolescent versus adult patients
  • Recommend treatment options for cervical and thoracolumbar fractures and describe the challenges and possible complications of each
  • Describe minimally invasive decompression, fusion and fixation techniques and summarize the advantages, disadvantages, and indications for these techniques versus open techniques

About Thomas G Lowe, MD
The Spine Community was saddened by the untimely death of Dr Thomas G Lowe on April 2, 2007. An accomplished spine surgeon, Dr Lowe was recognized throughout his career for his leadership in spine surgery and his commitment to further education for young surgeons. He was Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Colorado Medical School, where he was Co-Director of the Spine Fellowship Program. Dr Lowe was also the President-Elect of the Scoliosis Research Society. An avid sportsman and life enthusiast, Dr Lowe lived and loved his life to the fullest.
