About Our Practice:
The Virginia Brain and Spine Center (VBSC) is dedicated to the comprehensive management of the spine, including disc herniation, disc injury, nerve impingement, arthritic deformities, and degenerative conditions of the spine such as spinal stenosis. We also treat neuropathic pain disorders such as peripheral nerve injuries, peripheral neuropathies, and complex regional pain syndrome.

The VBSC provides access to a comprehensive team of supporting physicians: neurosurgeons and pain management anesthesiologists. We work closely with area neurologists, neuro-imaging specialists, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and psychologists to coordinate individual care needs. Our professional staff is compassionate and discreet, and there to help facilitate communication with insurance carriers, employers, and referring physicians.

In the pain management division, Dr. Poss is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain management. Dr. Stalvey is board certified in anesthesiology and is a candidate in the examination system for Pain Medicine certification ("board eligible"). We use non-operative measures to address painful symptoms related to spinal and peripheral nerve conditions. Our treatment focus is minimally invasive, x-ray guided, injection techniques. Furthermore, both physicians have an interest in helping patients with a wide variety of painful conditions that is not limited to the spine. Each of the physicians at the VBSC is engaged in ongoing clinical research to explore and substantiate the latest advances in operative and non-operative methods of diagnosis and treatment of painful disorders. We have two on-site state-of-the-art interventional pain suites dedicated to minimally invasive procedures
