Dr. Handel is an Interventional Physiatrist, a doctor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, who specializes in various spine injections for pain management. These injections include epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, SI joint injections, Radiofrequecy neurotomy and diagnostic discograms. These injections are done with fluoroscopic guidance in order to treat conditions such as disc herniations, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.
Each patient referred the Handel Center has a full comprehensive consultation which will include a review of there diagnostic testing including the MRI films which are explained to the patient. A differential diagnosis is determined and possible treatment options are discussed. Treatment may include but is not limited to physical therapy or chiropractic care (which are available on site or a referral to a facility close to home can be made), medication management and/or spinal injection therapy. Surgical options can be discussed, and if surgery is needed, this can be arranged and Dr. Handel will review the patient with a surgeon when warranted. Patients treatment plans are closely followed with frequent team meetings with the involved providers as well as frequent comprehensive follow up visits as needed. All Patients are treated with respect and compassion by the courteous staff at the Handel Center.
Dr. Handel is a graduate of The University of Michigan Medical School. He did his residency training at Harvard Medical School, and is currently an Assistant Professor and Brown Medical School.
