Dr. Shafi Khalid is board-certified in pain medicine and a fellow of interventional pain practice. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dhaka College in Bangladesh; achieved his medical degree at Mymensingh Medical College in Bangladesh; and earned his diploma in clinical neurology at the Institute of Neurology, University of London, in the United Kingdom. Dr. Khalid completed his internship and residencies in internal medicine at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, also in New York.

Dr. Khalid has devoted the last nine years of his medical practice to the field of pain medicine, including his work as a solo pain practitioner in Texas, and former assistant professor in the anesthesiology department at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He opened his current practice in Poway in June of 2006.

Dr. Khalid uses a multidisciplinary team approach to promote treatment and services for patients suffering from pain – providing cost effective, conscientious and accountable interventional pain management. Common pain disorders diagnosed and treated in his office include back and neck pain, headache/facial pain, neuropathic pain, CRPS, abdominal/pelvic pain and many more.
All procedures are guided by fluoroscopy in a state of the art procedure room. Common interventional procedure offered are:
• Medial Branch Block
• Radiofrequency ablations
• Epidural Injections
• Transforaminal injections
• Sympathetic block
• Discography
• Trigeminal and Sphenopalatine Blocks
• Spinal cord stimulators
Blunt needle techniques are used when appropriate to minimize the risk of complication.
