About Our Practice:
Neel Anand, MD, Mch Orth is Director of orthopedic spine surgery, Director of minimally invasive spine surgery and Co-Director of the neurosurgical and orthopedic spine fellowship at the Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders. Dr. Anand's primary area of research interest involves minimally invasive surgical techniques for spinal disorders and trauma in adults and children, which result in smaller incisions, faster recovery and better patient outcomes. He has pioneered minimally invasive surgical techniques for scoliosis correction. He is also actively involved in the development of emerging technologies involving non-fusion spinal surgery. He was and is a principal investigator in many FDA investigational device exemption studies.
Dr. Anand is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons in England and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and he is licensed in California, New York, Nevada, England and India. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Spine Arthroplasty Society (SAS), North American Spine Society (NASS) and Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). He is a founding member of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS), Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS), Association of Presacral Spine Surgeons (APSAS), and Society of Nucleus Arthroplasty (SONA).
Dr. Anand has presented numerous papers at major academic meetings and has been extensively published in peer-reviewed publications, such as the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques, Spine, Journal of Orthopedic Trauma, and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has written more than 20 textbook chapters and created educational CD-ROMs and instructional videos on the techniques of spine surgery. He is also on faculty and is chairman at many national and international courses teaching other surgeons techniques of spinal surgery.
Dr. Anand received his medical degree from the University of Bombay, Topiwala National Medical College in India. He completed orthopedic residencies at the University of Bombay, the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Liverpool and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Orthopedic Program at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Anand completed a reconstructive spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Florida Spinal Health Centers in Gainesville, as well as a scoliosis fellowship and a trauma fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University in New York. He served his surgical internship at New York Medical College, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.
