About Our Practice:
Dr. Malanga is the currently the Director of PM&R Sports Medicine Fellowship at Atlantic Sports Health and Director and Pain Management at Overlook hospital. Previously he served as the Director of Sports, Spine and Orthopedic Rehabilitation at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. He is a Board certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine specialist who has also completed a sports medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He has expertise in the nonoperative treatment of a variety of orthopedic disorders including neck and back pain as well as shoulder, knee, and other sport medicine and musculoskeletal problems. DR. Malanga provides sport medicine services to several local NJ high school and colleges and has served as the head team physician of New Jersey City University since 1999. He also serves as a consultant to the Rutger’s University Athletic Department as well. His practice has included the treatment of athletes from recreational to the Olympic and Professional levels.

Dr. Malanga has published a textbook entitle: “Whiplash” and “Scientific Evidence of Musculoskeletal Physical Examination. He has published over 60 articles and 25 book chapters regarding various musculoskeletal issues from in-line skating injuries to the treatment of neck and back pain. He has lectured throughout the country and abroad on a variety of sports medicine, spine, orthopedic and pain management topics. He has been a member of the Physiatric Association of Sports Spine and Occupational Rehabilitation (PASSOR) board serving in many positions in the past including President. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Coolege of Sports Medicine, American Academy of PM&R and American Society of Inventional Pain Physicians . He is currently a member of the AAPM&R Ultrasound task force. He is on the editorial boards of of SpineUniverse, Spine Jourmal and BioMed Central Musculoskeletal Disorder.

He has lectured throughout the country on a variety of musculoskeletal and spine topics. He has over 60 publications which includes original research and book chapters. He has edited a textbook entitled "Whiplash" about the diagnosis and treatment of whiplash injuries. He will publish a new textbook, with an accompanying DVD, on "Musculskeletal Physical Examination" in October, 2005. Dr. Malanga has been given multiple awards including "Best Doctor" in the New York Metro area 2003-2009 and New York Magazine in 2009. He is the 2007 recipient of the prestegious Richard and Hinda Rosenthal lectureship award which is awarded to a young physiatrist who has made a noteworthy contribution to the acre of patients with low back pain.

His practice includes a nonoperative focus on the treatment of acute and chronic spine pain and sports injuries. Spinal injections under fluoroscopic guidance are used when indicated and necessary. In addition, Dr. Malanga and his partners are the leaders in nonoperative treatments of sports, spine and orthopedic injuries using a variety of treatments including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. Dr. Malanga stresses an individualized, comprehensive approach to spinal disorders that addresses functional limitations of the entire 'kinetic chain'.
