Rods, Screws and a Cage Stabilize Spine after Kyphosis Surgery
Here is another post-operative x-ray of the 9-year-old boy who had spine surgery to treat a severe case of angular kyphosis. This image is taken from the boy's side, the lateral view. You can see the instrumentation (eg, rods, screws) implanted to hold the spine stable. The operation involved removing several vertebral bodies (vertebrectomy) and spinal fusion from the sixth cervical vertebrae (C6) through the second lumbar vertebrae (L2).
