About Dr. Behrooz Akbarnia
Doctor Akbarnia's highly distinguished career in the orthopaedic spine field and his contributions to improving the treatment of patients with spinal disorders is respected worldwide. Apart from his clinical practice, Dr. Akbarnia serves the academic community as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of California San Diego and Director of the San Diego Spine Fellowship Program.

Throughout his career, in addition to his academic and research recognition, Dr. Akbarnia has received many community service awards and honors. Most recently he was listed as one of "America's Top Surgeons" by the Consumers' Research Council of America. In addition, San Diego Magazine named him "Top Doctor" in 2004 and 2005.

Although Dr. Akbarnia's medical accomplishments are outstanding, it is his integrity and compassion that patients comment about. Currently, he is spearheading the development of the Growing Spine Study Group, an international group working to study and improve the care of children with Early Onset Scoliosis. Dr. Akbarnia also holds leadership roles in community service organizations such as the Neurofibromastosis Foundation, scholarship programs for students and child abuse prevention programs.
