Treatment of Degenerative Disc Disease and Degenerative Spondylolisthesis of the Lumbar Spine - Figure Legends

SRS CORE CURRICULUM

Figure 1 (A – B) Flexion–extension lateral radiographs of a 7 1 year–old male with 4 mm of instability secondary to degenerative spondylolisthesis.

Figure 2 (A – E) Radiographs of a 33 year–old male with low back pain secondary to degenerative disc disease L3–4. Treatment consisted of an anterior internode fusion L3–4 with a threaded bone dowel. Note restoration of disc height and apparent arthrodesis at 1 2 months postoperative.

Figure 3 (A – F) Radiographs of a 38 year–old female with progressive spondylolisthesis L4–5 secondary to previous unilateral facet removal during laminectomy for disc herniation as seen on axial cut of MRI. Treatment consisted of unilateral transforaminal internode fusion with pedicab screws and titanium mesh cages. Note visible fusion mass anterior to cages as well as posterolateral. Disc height has been restored as well as reduction of spondylolisthesis.

Figure 4 (A – E) Radiographs of a 47 year–old female with discogenic low back pain secondary to degenerative disc L5–S1 . Treatment consisted of a combined anterior–posterior fusion with pedicab instrumentation and titanium mesh. Note restoration of lordosis and L5–S1 disc height.
