PURPOSE: To evaluate radiographic and functional outcomes of chip PLIF using autogenous iliac crest bone graft and pedicle screw fixation in adults who had symptomatic spondylolisthesis.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Radiographs and functions of 65 patients who suffered from spondylolisthesis (degenerative 46, isthmic 19) and underwent laminectomy and instrumented chip PLIF during 09/1995–05/2000 were analyzed.

RESULTS: There were 50 females and 15 males. The average age was 41 years (range 26-75). 64 patients obtained solid fusion without implant failure, one had screw breakage and pseudarthrosis at L5-S1. All patients could resume pre-disabled functions with satisfaction. There was no serious complication except one temporary L 5 neurapraxia.

CONCLUSION: Chip PLIF with pedicle screw fixation provides excellent radiographic and satisfactory functional outcomes in symptomatic spondylolisthesis.
