Aquatic Therapy
No matter what difficulty you are having, low back pain to general conditioning, the aquatic environment will help you.
With the aid of a specialized vest or belt, the patient is suspended in the water, without their feet touching the bottom of the pool. The patient is able to move freely without restrictions and without impact on the musculoskeletal system. There is no other workout available that creates a zero impact environment. Each injury/patient has a program specially tailored to their need or protocols. The aquatics program here at The Institute for Physical and Sports Therapy is based on the belief that effective therapy eliminates or minimizes pain by teaching patients new movement strategies.
Dr. Igor Burdenko states it best, "Developing proper movement is essential for the recovery and prevention or re-injury. Teaching patients to move involves more then just teaching proper body mechanics, but includes endurance, balance and coordination." Water, especially deep water, is ideally suited for teaching movement because it demands internal stabilization of the spine and pelvis, which is the basis for effective movement.
