Precautions
- Use caution in patients with a history of drug abuse.
- Use caution in patients with repiratory difficulties.
- Use caution in patients with acute myocardial infarction, ventricular dysfunction, or cardiac insufficiency.
- Use caution in patients with head injuries.
- Use caution in patients with kidney or liver impairments.
- Use caution in patients with hypertension.
Infants
and Children
This drug is not recommended for use in this age group.
Adults Over 60
Use with caution in this age group, as older patients are more
likely to experience the drug's adverse reactions.
Drug Dependency
This drug has the potential for abuse. Chronic use can produce
withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuing. Use caution in patients
with a history of drug abuse, and avoid high doses.
Pregnancy Risk Category: C,
D if used for prolonged periods or in high doses at term
Pregnancy
Warnings
There are no adequate studies of fetal harm in pregnant women.
This drug should be used only if the benefits to the mother clearly
outweigh the potential risks to the fetus.
Nursing Mothers
Check with your physician. The drug is distributed into human
milk in small amounts.
Prolonged Use
Prolonged use has been reported to result in dependence and withdrawl
symptoms. Even though the risks are lower than with morphine,
there are reports of tolerance, abuse, and addiction. Consult
your physician.
Discontinuing Therapy
Your physician will decide when to discontinue.
Operating a Vehicle or Heavy Machinery
This drug may produce side effects that impair your mental alertness,
such as drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid such activities if you
feel these symptoms. Avoid consuming alcohol or other CNS depressants
while taking this drug. They may intensify these side effects.
Sun Exposure
No problems expected.
