Brace or no brace?

Started by Burst Fractures... on 09/08/2010 12:46pm

A few weeks ago I was in a pretty nasty car crash. I fractured my L3 and L5 (burst fractures), broke my sternum, left hand, and coccyx. My doctor said my spinal fractures were stable and that I would have to wear a turtle brace for the next 8-10 weeks. The instructions were to have it on when I was more than 30 degrees upright. Its now been a little over 5 weeks since the accident and Im not wearing the brace as much as I should. For instance, if Im just around the house or walking at the park. My back feels like its almost becoming dependant on the brace when I take it off. I dont have hardly any pain in my back unless I sit for a long time without it on. Is it ok to not wear it as much now or am I just setting myself up for a longer recovery?
