sciatica surgery it worths or not?

Started by ZyzKo on 03/09/2010 4:29am

hello I was diagnosed by Sciatica between L4-L5 and L5-S1, my neurosurgeon says to me that the solution is a surgery and I would like to know if it is advisable and also to read comments of those that already realized it if this solved the problem or not?

I have issues with L5-S1 myself. Are you looked at laser surgery? I am trying to find information about it? Did you consider it?

Hello-I am 6 months post op from a spinal fusion L2-S1 with instrumentation(rods, screws and spacers L3-S1) I am now trying to deal with a bone spur and nerve damage at L5-S1. I have close to the same pain, leg weakness, and foot drop that I had BEFORE the surgery. Before the surgery I was on oxycontin and percocet, now I am taking 40-60mg of vicodin as well as 2400mg of neurontin and 4500mg of a muscle relaxer every day-not a fun way to try to raise 3 kids and take care of a horse farm!
What treatments have you tried? In my opinion, knowing what I know now, I would try ANYTHING before you agree to surgery.

I had severe sciatica in both legs prior to Feb 8, 2010. Surgery absolutely took care of that problem. However, I have lingering substantial numbness in both of my calves through to the feet, post surgery. I just posted a request on the community board, you can read through it.

It depends on what is causing ur nerve compression. I wouldn't just go running into surgery on the advice of just one dr. Id get 2nd and 3rd opinions and do everything else under the sun first b4 u have surgery. Once u mess with ur back like that,it changes it forever. Best of luck to u
