Why not try the option of seeing a chiropractor . I personally believe that Chiropractic care should be the first-line approach for all patients diagnosed with Scoliosis . This approach is painless, inexpensive, and would not alter your life in any way.

Hello Hamza,

I'm much older than you but I also have scoliosis. However, I've been fortunate enough not to have needed surgery as yet.
For you, are you clear about what kinds of problems that your Dr. plans to solve by doing surgery? And then, assuming that you DO understand his/her rationale, are you significantly assured that the end results will be improved enough that going through the surgery will be worth it?
Of course, there are always risks with surgery. But if you decline to have the procedure, what is the long-term outlook for your condition then? And on the other hand, if you have the surgery, will your condition, and therefore your life, be greatly improved?
For myself, if I were facing this decision, that would be the ultimate question - are the results going to be worth the risk/pain/etc. of going through the surgery. And only you can answer this for yourself with your Dr. providing the general facts.
I wish you all the best in whatever you decide!

Dear Hazma,

I was 17 when I was told that I would need surgery for scoliosis. I had the surgery at miami childrens hospital almost 30 years ago. I haven't had the first problem with my scoliosis since. I know that the procedure has come a long way since then. I had a wonderful surgeon and can't imagine what my health would have been like now had i not made the decision to have the surgery. You owe it to youself to do some research and possible talk to some people who have had the surgery. If you are not comfortable with the doctor you have now, go to another doctor. Check the doctor's credentials. If you are anywhere near Florida, check out the University of MIami School of Medicine.
